Advent Calendar #️⃣5️⃣ before indulging in the Independence Day festivities. I missed this yesterday. The beer wears a deep brown veil. Looks cloudy but the light actually penetrates into the beer giving a ruby reflection throughout. A tawny velvety head grows two fingers tall and descends to a beautiful lacing. The scent is slightly harsh with red wine and Bourbon, and especially Bourbon barrel notes. Bitter caramel, rye malt and soaked oak complete the olfactory provision. The taste follows suit with red wine, raw Bourbon and an intense barrel twist. Oak is obvious. Caramel is, indeed, bitter, followed by raw cacao powder and a coffeeish proposal. Balance is not achievable with this concoction. The body is medium. The finish doesn't change from upfront. The mouthfeel is relatively intense, a bit harsh, vinous, distinctly barrel aged and woody.
