Last time I had a beer from this brewery I fell in love with it and just wanted to get more. I'm so happy I get this one.
Appearance isn't that tempting: dirty reddish color, very cloudy beer. Small, and fast head doesn't leave any kind of marks behind: 2/5
The nose starts with a red berry tartness supported by the "raw" oak aroma. Then right after, the malty and caramel sweetness joins in with toffee hues. Last but not least comes a herbal note. Ok, nothing that spectacular but well build: 3,75/5
Medium mouthfeel with alcohol warmth. Low, but sparkling carbonation and subtle yet easily find dry oak feel: 3,75/5
Tastes seem at first to be a mixture of red berries with a hint of tartness, and an awkward maltiness. The malt doesn't seem to know if it wants to play the lead role and how exactly should it be tasting. Now its some kind of mixture of sweetness and light toastiness... Then the oak joins in but drowns beneath all those tart red berries and malty-sweet aromas. Only some vanilla flavor sticks around. Oak aging fails to give any complexity in this one: 9/15
Not what I expected. Not at all. This basically has every little thing a good Barleywine should need (although the mouthfeel is too light for my liking) but the harmony between everything is missing big time. This is now a weird mixture of things. Same series Imperial Stout was so much better: 13,75/20
