At my son's house for the beginning of a new era of Alabama 🐘football🏈. Who knows what the future holds.
Brought this growler back from Goat Island Brewing to enjoy at this game. I had it at the brewery aged in a Bourbon Barrel. It was pretty good and I want to see how good it is from the tap.
From the growler it had a frothy tan head, very thick and heavy. Texture is very soft and creamy for a porter. Flavor is excellent. Vanilla out front, dark chocolate and espresso follow. Not any change of flavor going into the finish, just more of the same.
My expectations were low, however, this is an excellent beer. 🍺 It compares to some of my very favorite creamy milk stouts. I could enjoy this forever. Not exceptional, but something I could enjoy over and over.

At Goat Island Brewing having my last taster. Octoberfest on draft. I've enjoyed this many times in the can the first time on tap from the brewery. Not much to add except it has a fresher quality.

At Goat Island Brewing having another taster. Have to drive so tasters only.
Reddish orange clear color. First is a sharp bitterness but it calms down but continues. A citrus, probably grapefruit is trying to reveal itself but is battling the roasted malt for dominance.
Interesting but a little too bitter for me.

At the brewery to enjoy some of their beers that are only served on site. They took the vanilla porter and Bourbon Barrel aged it.
Bourbon flavor appeared quickly then receded. A crisp roasted malt followed adding a touch of vanilla. No evidence of the 9%. Very good.

Love getting to enjoy a lazy Saturday and topping it off with a unique IPA.
Medium to dark Crystal clear yellow color. Expected citrus aroma, nothing distinct about it. Smooth with a medium amount of creaminess. A nice amount of citrus hops, a bitterness level that I can easily tolerate, even enjoy. Tropical citrus flavor and, because I read the profile, I can detect the peach flavor. It's a bit hidden behind the citrus but if you know it's there you can find it. The finish trails off the citrus which leaves the bitterness more apparent because it's now alone.
I've never hidden that I'm not a huge IPA fan but if the bitterness level is moderate to light I can definitely enjoy one of these. This falls into that category and I very much like it. Actually wish I had another.

An Alabama beer that I took for Ryan in Texas for us to Duo.
Foamed out of the can as soon as I opened it. Super high head in the glass but not real heavy. Quickly subsided. Color is light yellow, a little fog in the haze. Aroma gives the wheat malt and adds the tropical fruit, definitely mango. From the moment it enters your mouth you can tell that this is very light, thin, refreshing category of beer. Flavor is on the modest side, no mistaking that it's a wheat beer and the mango is pure. Not a blend of fruit that is so typical. As it travels into the finish it becomes dry and the flavor drifts off.
This could have been better with less effervescence. Couldn't stop belching from first to last sip. The flavor could have been stronger also. Entire beer felt watered down and weak. Best characteristic is that the mango is distinctive which resulted in my rating not dropping lower.

Beertender poured down side of glass so small head. Clear deep red amber color, beautiful. Flavor gives an earthy sweet dark malt. Lightly toasted. Middle spikes a tender hop bitterness, shows traces of lemon peel. Finish stays with the earthy trait while turning slightly dry.
Good beer, not great. Very happy to find this in a small town. Smooth from start to finish and very drinkable. Good brew from Culman, Alabama.

Another Duo beer, this one from a Culman Alabama brewery, Goat Island. Thought Ryan would get a kick out of this pink Giggling Goat.
Full head with the smallest bubbles I've seen outside of a nitro. Hazy Amber copper color. Aroma of sweet citrus. Very soft and totally smooth texture. Softer than most IPAs. Flavor definitely has amber malt characteristics. Has a semi-sweet earthy feel. Transitions into a mild orange peel with traces of a blend of various small sweet berries. Tart with a brackish bitterness.
I tried this beer a year and a half ago and did not particularly like it. Now it's complexity of combining an amber malt with citrus flavors creating an IPA is intriguing. That alone results in a better score.
