In order to provide for their own necessities the monks of Westvlereren have been brewing beer since 1839. This is without any commercial aim and in order to support people who are in need. The brothers work together with some employees in the production process. In this the endeavour always was to improve the various kinds of trappist beer, obviously with respect to the original recipe and production technique. Five natural raw materials are used to brew trappist beer: blond 8 and 12. Each of these have their own colour, taste and aroma. From this they create their own gastronomical world. All beer is unfiltered and unpasteurized. This adds positively to their taste and aroma.

Cosa dire, ci sarà più di una ragione se è considerata una delle birre migliori al mondo. Buona buona buona, scura quasi nera, bellissima schiuma anche se non persistente. Definiamola in una parola: equilibrata. Vale un viaggio in Belgio? Sì, decisamente. Non la bevi da sola ma è da abbinare ad una pietanza importante, sono andato sul sicuro con una costata di manzo. Spero davvero di avere la possibilità di riprovarla per ritestare l’unico difettuccio che ho trovato, l’ultima sorsata non era come la prima, sembrava aver perso un po’ di corpo. Comunque grande birra!

Bulle fine et perlante. Sur le biscuité, des notes réglisses, un caramel presque crémeux bien cuit. C’est subtil

Best before 2028.11.25. Dried fruits. Rather low-bodied. Seems very gentle as for Quadruple, easy drinkable. Having more would end bad as you don't feel that 10.2%.
