Having this Birmingham beer at my son's house. Never had a beer that fizzed when it poured, just like a cola. What little head it had immediately disappeared. Only a breath of aroma that gives a little bit of coffee. Moderately thin body for an imperial stout. Soft texture. An unusual mix of flavors. Starts with a blackberry jelly, adds some vanilla, a little bourbon, and on the back end traces of coffee which turns it a little dry. During the finish, the fruity taste of blackberry gets a little stronger with the addition of it turning toward blueberry. From first to last that bourbon rides through in the background.
The flavor is just okay. But the texture is not appealing. Has the thinness of a brown ale, not an imperial stout. The bourbon doesn't feel like it's blending with the berries or the vanilla, seems out of balance. Late, really late in the finish, chocolate creeps in like a ghost. Barely there but somehow it is.
Making this more creamy with a little bit more body would have helped. Perhaps some oats or lactose. But that's just me. Others seem to like it, just like it is.

Found a new Brewery in Birmingham Alabama. Of course I'm going to try their pastry Stout first. At 10 1/2%, I'm hoping for a lot of flavor. Never even heard of this place.
Texture has a light creaminess to it, after a moment turns a bit dry. First thing I get is a quick natural almond extract flavor. Not the refined stuff that you normally find in the store. Has a touch of a medicine flavor which makes me suspect that it's artificial. The malt isn't giving me any distinguishing flavors either. Even the 10 1/2% isn't apparent. Being a new place I was hoping to give them a good rating but it just doesn't deserve it.
