Birra Moretti (Heineken)
Udine, Italy

Birra Moretti Brewing Company was born in the midst of political unrest in the city of Udine in Italy around the 1800s. Udine and the whole Friuli region were plagued with Austro-Hungarian Empire and patriotic uprisings. Luigi Moretti came from a family of wealthy merchants in the region. Learning from his family business, Luigi had become quite familiar with the commercial trades of cereals, wine, food and beer. This became the inspiration to the foundation of Birra Moretti in 1859. Its first bottle came out in 1860 that later on expanded to six types of beers. In 1996, Birra Moretti was recently acquired by Heineken International and is now part of the Heineken brand.

Hopefully something decent and not just a gimmick. Pour was easy going and left a golden yellow body with lots of carbonation and a half finger of white foam, just like every other lager. Unlike every other lager though, there is a slight haze that sort of creates an amber hue. Aromas of biscuit malt, dry salty cracker and citrus hops. Mouthfeel is crisp and dry but still refreshing. A nice foamy feeling follows the initial bite but it reverts to full on carbonation as it goes down. Taste is pleasant, mild hoppiness with citrus profile and the same malt notes from before. There is a slight salt profile in thr mix but i honestly only noticed on every second or third sip. Even still, it was so subtle that im not sure I would have noticed if I'd had a regular moretti alongside this. Maybe there is not salt and I'm just willing it there? Either way, a decent, crisp and refreshing lager.
