Vintage 2018. Brilliant, jet black beer served in my new Spiegelau Digestive glasses. đ
đ»đđ Carbonation is laidback. A chocolatey, silky head appears on the top but retreats soon to a lace ring only. It goes without saying that the glass is otherwise spotless.
The powerful fragrance puts forward loads of dark chocolate and cacao nibs. Vanilla lingers beautifully in front of fruity Bourbon. Dry habanero and a transient hint of black pepper season medium-strong mocha. The scent is absolutely attractive, neatly pastry-like.
Now the first sip. Whoaah!! Where did the chocolate cake disappear?? Instead, the opaque liquid spreads hefty fruity habanero that occupies every tinyest nook of the mouth. Me likes! â€ïžâ€ïžđ¶ïžđ¶ïž I can still find dark chocolate and cacao powder that merge with throat-warming Bourbon and a note of delicate vanilla. Coffee is a bit sweet and surprisingly smooth. I can also detect a bit of lactose, faint cinnamon and distant black pepper. Drier than what the fragrance suggests and definitely not pastry-like.
The body is medium to medium-full. I hoped for fuller since this clocks 11 %. The beer ends with dark chocolate, raw cacao powder, a small dollop of burned coffee and a copious punch of dried fruity habanero. Bourbon behaves first well but becomes soon jaunty and starts believing that the world revolves around its navel. Wet oak barrel releases its harsh woody nuances to seal the deal. Vanilla and lactose round the palate adorably. The aftertaste is a real chili head and wants more while the tastebuds are sweating profusely for quite some time.
The mouthfeel is intense, velvety, smooth and a bit desserty. It's also fairly dry, barrel aged, slightly alcoholic in a good way as well as heavily warming. Moreover, the mouthfeel is unbelievably spicy and, hence, further, throat-pinching. All in all, I find layers and complexity around the different elements.
Very nice package but surely divisive owing to the penetrative habanero. đ€đ€đ€ Tangoes sensually with salty crackers and soft savory blue cheese. đ
NOTE: The barcode leads to Odd Side Ales' "Grandpa's Apple Pie".

Barrel Aged Advent Calendar beer Day 2
Chocolate, light peppers and cinnamon in the aroma. Taste has coffee, cinnamon, chocolate, bourbon, and habanero heat on the back end and in the throat. Especially in the throat.
Definitely better than it was fresh, but the heat in the throat is pretty unpleasant to me. Not really my thing. I aged this for a year in hopes that the heat would die off, and it did some. Other than the heat in the throat, it's quite tasty. Last time, I gave this a 2.5/5. This time, I'll bump it up to a 3.25/5

Oddsiden BA Mocha Maya on puolisen vuotta ollut mun olutkaapissa kypsymĂ€ssĂ€. Pullotettu 27/09/18, joten siitĂ€ on aikaa yli vuosi.
Ensiksi kertoisin ettÀ chili on oluessa mulle hieman vaikea. Pieni polte on toki ok.
Imperial Stoutin pÀÀlle muodostui parin sentin mittainen vaahtoreunus. Tuoksussa suklaata, pĂ€hkinÀÀ, kahvirouhetta, kanelia, hieman tummaa marjaa sekĂ€ tynnyriĂ€. Melkoisen tuhti ja iso tuoksuherkku. đ
Maussa ensiksi ihana suklainen makeus tÀyttÀÀ suun, jonka jÀlkeen chilin polte löytÀÀ isosti aistit sekÀ hieman rohtuneet huulet. Poltteen jÀlleen löytyy kanelia, syksyn kypsÀt marjat sekÀ pÀhkinÀt aika helposti.
Oluen lÀmmetessÀ chilin voimakkuus nousee ylÀtasolle, joka hieman laittaa suun puhaltamaan. Vesilasille tulee monesti kÀyttöÀ.
KyllÀ tÀmÀ menee silti sinne paremmalle puolelle maun ja fiiliksen osalta. Makeutta on onneksi tarpeeksi.
Evil Twinin Youâre in the Jungle Baby -olueen verrattuna tĂ€mĂ€ on vielĂ€ mieto.

EdwardTK:n kehuista inspiroituneena tÀmmöinen herkku lasiin.
Tuoksussa heti pamahtaa chilit niin, ettÀ silmiÀ kirvelee. Tuoksussa myös kanelia ja ehkÀ rusinaisuutta..? Myös suklaisuutta havaittavissa.
Maku sitten, voi herranen aika sentÀÀn. MissÀÀn chili-oluessa en ole koskaan tÀmmöistÀ poltetta maistanut! YkkösellÀ tuutti tÀyteen chiliÀ! Nielu liekehtii!

Kaatuu lasiin tummana, tummanruskealla/viininpunaisella reunuksella, melko paksuna vanana, ohuella kermaisella vaahdolla.
Kielen pÀÀllys on jopa hiukan tulessa. JÀlkimaku kestÀÀ pitkÀÀn ja habanero kutittelee kurkkua useita minuutteja. Vesilasillinen jos toinenkin on tÀmÀn kanssa vÀlttÀmÀttömyys. Tuntuu todella lÀmmittÀvÀltÀ ja moniulotteiselta oluelta. Upea elÀmys!

Habanero peppers, cinnamon, coffee, oak and bourbon in the aroma. Taste has the habanero peppers first. Burns the throat on the way down. Coffee and cinnamon are next. The bourbon is hidden underneath the spiciness of the habaneros, but you can still tell it's there. This is a much different beer than I remember it being. I'm going to definitely age my remaining bottle so hopefully it balances out a bit. If you like hot, spicy beers, this is the one for you. This is just too hot for me to enjoy. I like what this beer offers flavorwise until I swallow and my throat catches on fire. Not a huge fan. 2.5/5
I was initially going to drink this one last this evening, but I'm so glad I changed my mind. I'm a trooper, so I'll finish this, but it's going to be hard.

Chocolate and cinnamon in the aroma with some of the habanero sneaking through on the back end of the aroma. Habanero is there. Cinnamon, coffee and chocolate. This is pretty damn tasty. The habanero hits mostly in the back of the tongue and in the throat. This is incredibly well balanced. Habaneros in beer is tricky to balance, but they did it. Enough to let its presence be known, but not distract from what the beer is supposed to be. I've had some in this style that have been great, and some not so much, but this falls in the great category. The cinnamon works with the chocolate, which works with the coffee, which works with the habanero. 4.5/5
