A complex mix of four hops - Goldings, Bramling Cross, Northdown and WGV - plus a pinch of chocolate malt joining pale malt in the mash, produced a robustly flavoured beer with a fresh and fruity nose (hints of blackcurrant), plus biscuity maltiness in the background. In the mouth it’s full-bodied and malty at the starting post with a hint of blackcurrant, while citrus and spice overtones join in the race; the initial grainy malty finish is followed by a growing and lingering bitterness. If this is the first of the new brews then the future is looking good.

Decent drink. It has a nice malty aroma and taste, with a subtle fruit flavour and a nice biscuity maltiness thrown in. There is a slight bitter finish, but it is enjoyable. It's a smooth and easy-drinking session ale that's totally quaffable. Sadly, it seems to be suffering from the usual JDW curse, as it is very flat without any creaminess. I was expecting it to be quite a bit better, but its lack of any head is my reason for the scoring. If it was a bit livelier I would have been scoring it around 3.8 or 3.9.
