Ryan and I are having this Boulevard Stout on Duo for a special reason. Of all the beers and breweries that we've enjoyed, we've always agreed that Boulevard has consistently produced our favorite stouts. Consistently. I like visiting breweries and we feel like if we could go to any brewery in the US it would be Boulevard. So we're going. Booked airline reservations and hotel and we're going to the brewery. Family members have season tickets to the Kansas City Chiefs ball games so we're also going to tailgate the Ravens game. It's going to be epic. Now to the beer. Another one of boulevards barrel aged series, always good. Beautiful chocolate thick head. A lot of effervescence around the edge of the glass. Aroma of spice and bourbon. The flavor is wonderful and complex. Immediately get a deep roasted coffee and the oak barrel Bourbon. It's brief and quickly followed by the roasted coffee, chai, and raw cinnamon. We both detected a dark fruit in the background, probably dried date. It seemed that this was all the flavors, where's the dark chocolate. If you look for it it's definitely there, quietly sitting in the background behind everything, like I foundation, dark and somewhat sweet. This was not a quick review for Ryan or I. We discussed it at length so the beer had a chance to warm a little. Of course it evolved. The finish seem to bring a dark black cherry and turned a little sweeter. A wonderful and strongly flavored beer. We always felt that Boulevard's great stouts were because of a really good foundation stout to add flavors to. This one is different. I believe it was brewed from a totally different recipe and not the basics of their other successful stouts. We plan on enjoying their regular brewery tour and their barrel tasting tour. There will definitely be reviews from the brewery.
