Happy Valentine's Day ♥️. Ryan and I are going to Duo one of my favorite flavors which is hazelnut. This one has hazelnut, chocolate, coffee and a blast of 14.8% barrel aged alcohol. Sounds pretty good. Well this is a first. I open the bottle and set it on the table in front of me, about 24 inches away, and could already smell it. Hazelnut! Poured with almost no head, totally opaque brown color. Glass to the nose and......a huge blast of hazelnut and chocolate. This is like concentrated hazelnut. First sip and the rating is already determined. Heavy and thick creamy texture. Flavor hits hard, real hard. The hazelnut is strong roasted, highly intense and it has been combined perfectly with a creamy Swiss milk chocolate with notes of coffee. Has a high level of sweetness but it's not offensive, the other flavors actually prevent its source from being identified. The 14.8% alcohol doesn't really become apparent until the middle and especially the finish. During the finish the barrel aging adds some modest wood characteristics. I was concerned that the hazelnut could be artificial. No way! They even warn you on their website if you are allergic to nuts. It's definitely real. Many beers have a short finish and then gone. Not this one. It lingers and stays with you demanding that your sips are smaller than usual, dreading that the glass may soon be empty. If there were a 6 rating that's what I'd give it. It has equally joined my favorite beer of all time, Founders "Big Luscious". Ryan is going out tomorrow try to find more. Damn I hope he does.
