Advent Calendar Beer #️⃣7️⃣. The appearance is muddy, deep dark brown to black, depending on the light. A subdued chocolate tan head forms on the surface and shrinks soon to the sides. A modest lace ring still wafts on the top for a good while. The scent offers smoke, whisky, barrel notes, dark chocolate, a little amendment of licorice, a wink of peat and faint raw vanilla bean. An attractive set of aromas with fairly generous smoky whisky but still balanced in my opinion. Smoky whisky is truly abundant on the tastebuds. Soaked barrel doesn't let me go easily. Then, I receive layered flavors in varying magnitudes: roasted malt, raw chocolate, licorice root, tar, oven baked apple, remote bitter syrup and a touch of vanilla. The palate is really intensive and improves in concert with the temperature. The body is full. Reasonably full if not massive. The finish is powerfully smoky and roasted, pushing up bags of whisky, barrel, licorice and tar. Quite demanding. The mouthfeel is full, strong, deep, a tad layered, amply barrel aged, dry and drying. Alcohol is on the verge of being arrogant but manages to remain only bold. Definitely not the easiest gateway BA IS. Now there will be a short break in my advent calendar beers. The next one will be #13. I will enjoy and review #8–12 later in the year.
