Back to Tom Beers. Last time I visited this place, I had a couple of La Meltingpote's beers, and they didn't impress me. So I better not choose them this time. Interestingly, they have one CoolHead on tap. But I will not go for CHB, let me try instead an NEIPA by BlackPig.
Looks delicious at least. Fully hazy, mango-pulp-colored beer with an off-white, dense moussy head that barely grows one whole finger tall. Nevertheless, the retention lives long, so does the attractive lacing on the top.
Lemon zest, tangerine, mango and some dried orange peel can easily be detected in the air. The scent doesn't give any hint of the maltbase, I expected oat flakes but don't get them. Just fruity.
The gustatory identity is citrusy. Mango is negligible on the tastebuds. Instead, I spot lemon zest, lemon peel, grapefruit pulp, raw pineapple, perhaps also a twist of carambola. A moderate grassy undertone prevails all through the gustatory journey. The fragrance promises more tropical nuances but the actual supply is just very little tropical.
The body is light. The end is even more pithy and peely, a tad zesty as well, and quite short-lived. Just a bit of a drying lemon peel note remains in the mouth for longer.
The mouthfeel is light, zesty, pulpy, pithy, modestly crisp and has a limited drying element, too. It's an alright refreshment but disappoints me a bit after the first olfactory encounter. Obviously my expectations and realism didn't meet.
P.S. Seems to be my 250th 🇨🇠beer.
