Opened this can as a Duo with Ryan right after the Alabama Auburn football game. Still trying to catch my breath from such a tremendous and so unlikely outcome. Somehow, Roll Tide Roll! ππ
Has a very thick and frothy head, 3/4 in high. Aroma is both sweet molasses and the smell of roasted wort that I was privileged to experience not long ago. The flavor of a Black IPA is always powerful. Strongly roasted malt, deeply cooked molasses, powerful citrus hop bitterness, and a resinous pine kick. Well balanced, none dominant over the others. Finish ads a sweet mellow citrus flavor, soft like a tangerine while retaining a sharp edge of hop bitterness.
I haven't had many Black IPA s, but I like this combination of roasted, like a stout, but retains its hop bitterness of an IPA. Interesting combination.
