Bell's recently reformulated Beer of the Lakes and changed it to Lager For the Lakes. With that reformulation and name change also came a style change. It's now an American Lager instead of a Bohemian Lager. There are a lot Bell's fans who are up in arms over this change, so I figured I'd do a side by side review and determine which one I think is better. L of TL: Deep malty aroma. Taste has a rich, almost märzen-like maltiness to it. Very heavy on the tongue and lingers for a little while, but one It's done, it disappears, leaving me ready for the next sip. Medium+ body with medium-low carbonation. L for TL: Similar aroma to an extent, but not quite as malty and a little sweeter smelling. Taste has semisweet malts. Not quite as rich in flavor, but definitely easier to drink. This one has a quicker finish, which leaves me anxiously awaiting the next sip, so they have that in common to an extent. Medium body with medium-low carbonation. These two are decently similar, but with enough differences to separate them. I didn't mention the color, but they're close to the same with the Lager Of being slightly darker. The picture doesn't do the true color differences any justice. If I'm going for flavor, I'd grab Lager Of. If I'm looking for something easier to drink (the whole point of this beer), I'm going with Lager For. I'll give the slight nod to Lager For. To be honest, if I'm day drinking, I'm fine with PBR. Lager Of: 3.5/5 Lager For: 3.75/5
