Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout
17.2% Imperial Stout
The rumors are true. Often whispered about in the darkest corners of the beer community, World Wide Stout just got a little more complex and whole lot more sought-after. Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, you might be wondering how this boundary-pusher could get any more boisterous. One word – Utopias.
Chock full of intricate aromas and warming flavors, Sam Adams Utopias is a unique blend of aged ales dating back more than 25 years – the perfect complement to an already complex World Wide Stout. And thanks to a shipment of freshly emptied Utopias barrels from our friends at Sam Adams, we were able to see just how well these two beloved brews would mingle. After sitting in the barrels for a full year, Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout was born.
The result is a jet-black, rich and roasty beer with balanced notes of espresso,

Barrel Aged Advent Calendar Day #6
Bottled unknown
Sweet aroma, presumably from the barrel aging, with notes of dark fruits, chocolate and faint oak. Taste has sweeter notes which I'm assuming are from the time spent in Utopia barrels, dark fruits like plums and raisins, chocolate notes, oak, and finishing with a moderate lingering bitterness.
The body is medium-full and somewhat mouth-coating with an appropriately low amount of carbonation.
This is a boozy one, but it's very tasty. I'll continue to age my 3 remaining bottles and see how it changes over the years. 4.5/5

So sour and bitter, in an off putting way, that I’m legitimately concerned that this bottle has turned! Nothing like what I’ve read it’s like. Input appreciated!

Back in Houston with my daughter and son-in-law enjoying an extra special beer upon my arrival.
Poured with very little head, seemed heavy. Strong aroma of Bourbon Barrel and a sweet dark fruit, probably raisin or perhaps plum. First sip is crazy. A strong 17.2% (my record) bourbon barrel blast but is not overpowering or offensive. Puts a warming experience combined with a full body chill before the full taste opens. After this exquisite beginning, a delicious raisen and dryed cherry thickly cover the mouth. When you think it can't get any better, the finish crashes in with a dark semisweet chocolate that blends perfectly.
From the first sip this was never anything but a 5.0. Not even close. At $40 a four pack, it's a bargain. Going to try and find more and save for future wonderful days.
