Blood Eagle
6.6% Sour Red / Brown
A cross between a Flanders Red and a British Stock Ale, brewed with a mixture of crystal, amber and rye malts. Primary fermentation was undertaken with one of our favourite brettanomyces blends, in addition to our house culture of yeast and bacteria. The beer was then blended (70/30) with 2 year old Amber Sour Beer aged Rye Whiskey barrels. We transferred this blended beer directly onto the lees and spent fruit (200kg redcurrants/blackcurrants) from our previous Flanders Red - Blood Incantation, in addition to another 200 kg of whole victoria plums, harvested at Pittormie Fruit Farm, 7 miles from the brewery. A portion of these plums were smoked at the brewery, using oak staves from a red wine barrel. The resulting beer is complex and vinous, with a subtle smoke.

Hieno skottilainen ba flanders. Hieno kokonaisuus. Mulla oli maistelussa 7.4% versio.

Merky rose coloured is this Flanders Red style sour beer. On the nose is a soft wood aromas along with red fruit, smoke and plums. Smoked plums is a new one to me and interesting, new I had to try this brew. It's only one of many flanders red style brews Holy Goat have made, virtually all of them have been amazing, I expect more of the same. First sip is nice and sour, refreshingly so then your hit with wood fruit followed by smoke. The sour red berry side of this brew is light and refreshing and the wood influence of the barrel aging makes this dry, putting a halt to the sweet and sour and then the smoke leaves an intriguing encouraging you to return to it. I'm not getting much of the usual Flanders salt and balsamic vinegar flavours at the moment, I think it may be pairing with the plums. Overall it's light and quite complex, with juicy red currant, smokey plum, earthy barrel wood and salt and vinegar subtlety.

Very complex. Aromas of tart berries, caramel, peat and smoke. Highly carbonated, vinous, tart and refreshing. Very fruity, with berries and jammy fruits coming through. More Flanders Red than the last one I had from these. Definitely more complex too and not just a fruity, sour overload.

This guy came in swinging. Pours like an ale, smells like a whiskey and nothing but sour. Not a drink to be messed with lolz
