Gueuze Cuvée René is one of the jewels of our brewery. With its golden colour, its sparkle and its beautiful sherry aromas, this is the queen of gueuzes.
This old gueuze is a blend of old and young lambic matured in large oak barrels called foudres. It is then bottled in a beautiful champagne bottle where a second fermentation takes place. After 6 months, the gueuze obtains a golden colour and is slightly carbonated and tart. But kept in a cellar for a few years, it becomes truly exceptional!
The use of a champagne bottle dates back to an uncertain time period when lambic brewers specialised in recovering empty bottles from great restaurants and other establishments where a lot of champagne was consumed. That is why we chose the most noble of bottles to hold our noblest beer.

Oikein kelpo oude gueuze Lindemansilta.

My souvenir from Brussels some time ago. This is a 2020 Blend. I've had the 2017 Blend, and I loved it. Of course, the context was different as my record of Lambics was substantially shorter in 2018 when I tasted it.
This beauty pours translucent, deep gold. Carbonation starts popping and stays alive long, producing a steady flow of minuscule bubbles from the bottom to the surface. The head itself is pure white and quite narrow.
Lovely wild yeast find its way to my nose. Gosh, I love it! White wine is obvious, followed by sour apple, green gooseberry and a brave oaky note as if wine barrel. A modest leathery aroma follows behind. The fragrance is simultaneously bold, elegant and gentle.
The flavor profile is... hmmm... dry and a tad young. Dry white wine and brut champagne mingle with wild yeast whose intensity is, nevertheless, lower than that in the scent. Oak barrel doesn't leave me alone. Still further, apple is very sour and gooseberry is raw. I can imagine its peel cracking between my teeth.
The body is light. The finish is sour, dry, and gives bowls of white wine and oaky nuances. Wild yeast is tame in the background but not silent. The aftertaste leaves a sandpapery feeling in my mouth for a long time.
The mouthfeel is considerably vinous, superdry, astringent, drying and slightly woody. It's reasonably funky and certainly Belgiany. Still, what I shun here a bit is that this tastes and feels young and, hence, it misses being as elegant as it could be.

Näftinsormenleveydenverran vaaleaa vaahtoa samean oranssinkeltaisen valoaläpipäästävän oluen yllä joka tuoksuu kepeän sitruksisen kukkaisen lepposalta ja maistuu kirpsakan kuivan tanniinisen valkoviinirypäleisen kepeältä. Kolme ja puoli bojoo. PE: 30 APR 2026.
