Fated Farmer: Black Currant
6.5% Sour / Wild Ale
Fated Farmer: Black Currant pours a deep plum color and wastes no time in presenting it's complex, vinous bouquet of aromas. Notes of bold, structured red wine, blackberry preserves, and red grape are the highlights, with underlying earthiness in the background. Dry and slightly tannic, Fated Farmer: Black Currant finishes with vibrant, mouthwatering acidity.

Funkya, mustaherukkaa, villihiivaa ja tynnyristä tammisuutta sekä pehmeää vanilijaa sekä mausteisuutta. Hieman tässä härnää kellarisuusa mutta ei liikaa joten voi pisteitä antaa.

Grandmaster Wexi wrote such a mouthwatering (and -snapping) review from this that I really can’t resist the call! BEER: Fated Farmer: Black Currant BREWERY: Trillium Brewing Co. BEER STYLE: American Wild Ale COUNTRY: USA ABV.: 6.5% COLOUR (EBC): Dark Red (60.0) BITTERS (EBU/IBU): - AROMA: Pure, freshly picked, black currants. HEAD: Pretty much nonexistent. GREY’S VIEW First go is somewhat familiar, although a very pleasant one. I taste juicy and fresh black currants, wood sorrel arriving shortly, pure mineral feel is topped on this one, again. But then it stops. Odd. But okay. Mouthfeel is swift and whirly. It has that New England native yeast feel all over it. Lovely balanced (between juicy currants and their acids) and somewhat exciting with the bubbles. Aftertaste presents semi tangy, mouth puckering currants, distant shore shells and stones to go with the forestry shadow entire the way. OTHER NOTES: Pleasant and pure work from Trillium. These seems to be almost too easy to them. I like it. It has that high class, stylish, feel to it once again. BOTTLED 2/5/2019 TASTED 22/1/2021

After some average or substandard beers during the weekend, it's high time to have something good. Or who knows. Barrel fermented blackcurrant wild ale sounds shameless enough to please my perverse appetite. 😁 Obviously vintage 2019. The color of the beer is attractive: deep dark burgundy. It's basically translucent but the dark tint makes it difficult to actually assess it. Carbonation leans on the modest side. Still, a white-pinkish head emerges on the top, reaches mere half a finger's measure and looks fairly dense. It adorns the top longer as a cute lace ring. The olfactory provision is vinous and especially tannic. I'm getting red wine but not grape. Blackcurrant is evident, yet I could also link an injection of blackberry to the fragrance. Furthermore, I can pick wheat malt and a whisper of dark plum. So far, strange enough! 💜💜 The taste receptors await the first sip impatiently. Ready - set - go! Sour blackcurrant smashes in unapologetically and gives no mercy. Oh mama! What a slam! Kicks balls like they were redundant! The package is highly vinous and tannic indeed. Blackberry joins the show and gives space for the pungency of wine yeast. Soaked oak barrel emits its distant woody nuance to the cocktail. Wheat malt must also be present in the background. The gustatory experience is not particularly complex but still nicely elegant if one can use that adjective of such massive boldness. 💜💜💜 The body is light-medium to medium. The beer finishes with overwhelming sour blackcurrant mash, a small amendment of blackcurrant leaf, added blackberry and surprisingly soft wheat malt. The woody wound bleeds now even more profusely than upfront. The aftertaste mashes sour berries for the tastebuds who wince out of astringency for a long time. The mouthfeel is extremely tart and strongly puckering, even astringent. It's highly vinous, tannic, relatively dry and drying. Moreover, the mouthfeel is juicy and rich in berries, remotely woody, smooth and nicely aged. Awesome. Unapologetic. 'Soft' is not in this beer's vocabulary. Perfection would have required more complexity but this is the winner of the weekend for sure!
