This beer claims to be a "Rocky-road-style pastry dubbelbock". I've had a few BA doppelbocks and a couple of flavored ones, so this is clearly a rarity. As far as I remember, this is the first doppelbock that outright titles itself as a "pastry doppelbock". Interesting! The beer is dressed in shiny pitch black. Looks like a stout. Very much. The carbonation is decent, clearly on a reserved side of the continuum. Still, a tall latte-hued head emerges on the surface exceeding two fingers easily. Soon the frothy layer is replaced by a dense lace ring. Dark chocolate, caramel, a tad vanilla and a marginal twist of toffee emanate in the air. Basically appealing but remains somewhat limited in intensity. The taste offers a stronger flavor cocktail that is composed of dark chocolate, partly unrefined cacao beans, vanilla, caramel and almond. Almond is actually not correct since the beer doesn't contain almond but pecan nut. Well, whatever. Marshmallow is really modest although Rocky Road allows one to expect it. Had I not known it's there, I would have probably missed it altogether. Alcohol steps forward when the beer gets warmer. The body is light to light-medium. Only. I would have welcomed a bigger body at 9 %. The finish offers raw cacao powder, bitter syrup, a suggestion of alcohol and black malt. The level of sweetness dives and the gustatory diversity narrows. The tail waves for a while. The mouthfeel is light, slightly roasty, lip-glueing, desserty and marginally alcoholic. I repeat what I said in the first paragraph: interesting. A pastry flavored beer that happens to be a doppelbock but could equally be a brown ale, dark ale or even stout as for the flavor spectrum. An interesting curiosity, and tasty as well, but maybe I'd still prefer my doppelbocks unflavored.

Punainen tölkki. Ohut beige vaahto, ihan musta juoma. Mukavan hapokas. Kaikkia niitä makuja, joita tölkin takana mainitaan: vanilija, makeutta, pähkinää, paahteisuutta ja suomalaisittain salmiakkia. 3,75€
