Anabasis is a Barrel-aged Barleywine that is brewed with American malts and hops, but fermented with a strong English Ale strain. Blend 4 rested for 2 years in Blanton’s and Eagle Rare barrels before blending and deciding it was ready to share with you.

I don’t know how to begin with this. So let’s hit the headphones on and just go with it...
🎧 Abduktio - Thermidor
I received this as a surprise gift from Muikku3, EdwardTK, RRudolf, Wexi and VeliWestside. Yes, as a surprise gift.
🙏🏼 Absolutely incredible and silencing sort of kindness. 🙏🏼
I have never had any brew from this brewery. I expect them to be top notch. They are pricy and rare to find in Finland or even europe, so I’ve always decided to postpone trying them, untill now.
And what a piece they got me! Details looks so gorgeously fitting to me, from all the Side Project beers I think this might take me to a place far, far away. But enough with my babble, let’s dive in!
BEER: Anabasis (Blend #4)
BREWERY: Side Project Brewing
BEER STYLE: Barley Wine (Blanton Bourbon + Eagle Rare Bourbon BA)
COUNTRY: USA
ALCOHOL (ABV): 14.0%
COLOUR (EBC): Deep Dark Brown (80.0)
BITTERS (EBU/IBU): -
SCENT: I get deep whispers of Bourbon. Those seductive and deceitfull calls of the sirens, which we all know. Bit sweet and roasted malts and a slight touch of artisan made chocolates. Lovingly strong willed.
FOAM: Swift and large bubbled the few seconds it lasts.
GREY’S VIEW
Barley Wine build with american malts and hops & English Ale strain. Rested for 2 years in Blanton’s & Eagle Rare Bourbon Barrels.
Alright. I think it’s a go time...
And yes ... it’s, it’s so beautiful. So beautiful.
Taste has good amount of complexity in it. Dark agile malts, more variants of chocolates than my fingers can count, deep and pillowy soft creaminess and of course the Bourbons.
This has strong spirit of Bourbon in it. I mean the Bourbon is almost flying in this one, so lively. Barrels brings leafiness, oakiness and that; kinda wet and ancient kind of grovy to this. And the Bourbons also evolves in this one. Such a beautiful artwork. Such a beauty.
Body is complex and really just continuum to the flavors. Piled with the tiniest bubbles, strong roasted malt bone and the creamy feel brings this somewhat next to perfection.
🎩 I don’t know. I really feel too blessed to enjoy such a gift. You know? To know such a pure hearted fellows to seek this kind of rarity to me. And yeah, this is such a beautiful brew. 🎩
Aftertaste. Is long. So beautifully long and so perfectly wistful to my whole being. The mainflavors decent slowly to the horizon with Bourbon being the last ray of tastes in this one.
OTHER NOTES:
Anabasis (= The March Of Ten Thousand) = Series of seven books composed around 370 BC. Books are about hired Greek mercenary army seizing the throne of Persia.
Again. Thank you all who surprized me with this. This is one of the things I carry with me to the rocking chair and brag about it to my grandkids. Most definitely, yeehaaw! 👴🏼👊🏼
I’m all smiles and so much more.
Thank you ❤️🙂

Anabasis oli Barley Winea parhaimmillaan. Uskomattoman kompleksinen kokonaisuus, ja vaikka alkoa oli 14%, niin kokonaisuus on oli todella pehmeä ja tasainen.
