Leipää ei, kun Le IPAa. Itellä tää valitettavasti jäi pyörimään jääkaappiin ja odottamaan parempaa nauttimishetkeä. Olkoon se nyt. ULKOASULTAAN olut on sameaa Jaffankeltaista ja siihen nousee valkoinen vaahto. TUOKSU mandariininen, greippinen ja mangoinen. Painotus tuossa järjestyksessä. MAKU on kuiva(humaloidu)n hedelmäinen. Greippiä, mangoa, ananasta, passionhedelmää. Täyteläistä ja puhdasta. SUUTUNTUMA on keskitäyteläinen+ ja pehmeän poreileva. Laadukas jenkki-IPA. Onko ikä jo purrut vai miksi en sitä koukkua löydä?

I probably won't make a habit of spending £14 on an import beer that was probably brought in via a mule. But it's something to try and experience once. Monkish are self proclaimed the best beer brewer in California and are highly regarded by enthusiasts, this peaked my interest. Warm pale golden straw like colour, opaque and with visible carbonation, thought the head disappeared quickly. Rich and deep tropics on the nose and it also hints at the body to come. Passionfruit, grapefruit come initially for me followed by tangerine and lime with a hint of pine. Double dry hopped IPAs are my fave so let's jump in.. Soft and complex with rich body finish, is my initial reaction. The pine reveals itself more after a second sip and serves to counter balance the juices. There is a bit of heat from the alcohol coming after the finish, I can't help but think it would be less noticeable if this was a fresher example. Still, hoppiness stays with you via a subdued dankness, hops and pine. It's not every New England that has pine to it and it is from Cali...but this element does take a back seat and provides complexity and balance. It's very silky in the mouth with medium to full body, very smooth and carbonation is light. I've seen they make alot of DIPAs and this is on the top end of an IPA without being a DIPA. Pineapple makes an appearance on the finish along with the piney element. It's a harmonious concoction of apricot, peach, mango, passionfruit, lime and pine that would be dangerously drinkable via the softness if it weren't for the reminder of the ABV on the finish. Is it worth the money, probably not to be honest. For £14/£15 one can get a 750ml bottle of aged mixed fermentation ale or a serious lambic brew. Though I'm sure I'd prefer this! If I lived in California or USA in general and paid upto 7bucks for it that would be about right. In reality the UK's best and brightest are 95% comparable to this only missing that 5% which in this case is the harmonic balance and a sense of finesse, style and character. Almost as if this beer is saying "craft is American and here it is". Could be imagined romanticism on my part though! Back to if I'd pay up again, actually, I think I would if I saw a different beer of theirs come into a UK shop as a new arrival, preferably only a couple weeks old. This beer was tasted 21/07/22. Canned 06/07/22 and I assume this date is in USA format off mm/dd/yy judging by the scarcity of Monkish over here. In fact radbeer.com now show no search results, there were three or four at the time of my purchase. This fact helps to justify my purchase, but I would have liked more hops/juice and less alcohol heat. Rating this is a tough one.

Perus asiat todella kunnossa.

First Monkish beer for me. Aroma: Stone fruits, pine, citrus. Taste: Peach, pineapple, citrus. A lot of pine and some herbs. Dank and juicy. Great!
