Nightcap. The beer pours sludgy, deep brown. The seriously hesitant carbonation releases a meager, latte-hued head that barely covers the surface in the first place. The top becomes quickly still with only a gossamer lace ring circling the surface.
The scent displays a bit of thin red wine and a suggestion of oak barrel. Faint raisin, a pinch of fig and a biscuity note join the olfactory wheeze.
Red wine comes through in the taste experience forcefully and determinedly. The vinous aroma is interestingly semidry and almost tannine-free. There's additionally a sugary twist looming right on the top of the tongue, which institutes a confusing conflict between sweetness and dryness. Tiny injections of raisin and plum, both ripe and dried, a little bit of purple grape as well as a silent sigh of dry fruitcake.
The body equals medium-full. The beer ends with generous semisweet red wine and purple grape juice, seasoned with a oak barrel nuance. Raisin and plum merge with a pinch of dark chocolate and biscuit. The aftertaste vanishes fairly fast from the mouth.
The mouthfeel is substantially vinous, juicy, medium-dry and a tad mouth-drying. The barrel aging can absolutely be recognized. The mouthfeel is also nicely soft, mellow and deep. Elegant with delicate features.
Much tastier than the regular version.
