New beer in Pint Please.
Best before 6.6.2020
Temperature: +12 C
Pours in thick with a pitch-black color. Small, brown head with poor retention, although some of it stays at the edges. Oily viscosity makes this tempting: 4,25/5
No surprise here that the Islay whisky strikes very hard and loudly. A bit of toasty and chocolate maltiness behind all that whiskey. But overall very subtle except the whiskey of course, but even that isn't as strong as usual: 3/5
Mouthfeel is medium-full with alcohol and oily feel. Some dryness from the bitterness and roasted dark malts. Slightly minerally feel. Big and bold which is good but lacks true complexity the best Russian Imperial stouts have: 3,5/5
Taste has a bit more "beer" flavors than the scent with chocolate, darker fruits, malty sweetness which has a rum-like vibe to it. Very "dark" flavor BUT then the Islay whisky comes over and juts mauls the flavors of the beer: 10/15
Nah, this has the very same problems that almost any beer with Islay barrel aging has: the beer flavors just can't compete with the much more dominant smokey Scottish whisky. The overall beer is just helplessly one-sided. Though, this is strong-minded and nothing really wrong per se. I like the Islay (and other heavily smoked/peaty Scottish) whiskys but in the beer, it just doesn't fit: 13/20
