Nightcap. Bottled on:? Temperature: +12 C Deep red color. Tan head with excellent retention, especially considering the high ABV. The texture looks quite thick. Nice looking brew: 4,5/5 The nose has warming alcohol, dried and sweet fruits, and then some oak and whisky. Not overpowering barrel notes which is good. Barrel aging adds subtle complexity in the aroma. Fruity sweetness dominates the scent, especially when the beer is warmer, so bit one-sided aroma: 3,25/5 Mouthfeel is only medium with noticeable alcohol. Sharp notes of wood and harsh bitterness: 3,25/5 Alcohol tastes boozy, with whisky notes. Sharp wood is also found its way into the taste as well. Fruity sweetness and some malty notes. Nah: 8,25/15 Ok, I guess. Just overly boozy and the barrel aging isn't quite a success. Just a big, warm Barleywine that lacks the complexity best BWs have. This could really benefit from some more malt flavor/aroma. After all its BARLEYwine, so malt should be strongly present: 12/20 =31,25/50
