Barrel Aged Advent Calendar Day #11
Bottled on 11-1-2019
Bourbon hits first in the aroma, followed by chocolate, roasted malts and a touch of oak. Taste has bourbon, chocolate, oak and finishes strong with tons of roastiness from all the malts used in this. Oak and roasted malts linger in the aftertaste.
The body is full with an appropriately low amount of carbonation.
The age and bourbon both have tamed the roastiness that is present in the base version. Delicious beer (the regular version), but sometimes the malts (combined with the booze level) can be a bit overwhelming at times. This one, despite being bourbon barrel aged and so strong, is quite balanced. It does taste boozy, but nowhere near 18% boozy. If I didn't know any better, I'd guess maybe 12-14%. High 4.5/5

Advent Calendar Day #16
2019 vintage. A repeat from last year, I do believe this is the strongest one at 18% abv.
Bourbon, dark fruits (leaning towards plums and raisins), chocolate and roasted malts in the aroma. Taste has dark fruits, bourbon, coffee and chocolate notes and roasted malts. This is bitter and sweet at the same time. Doesn't come off quite as boozy as it did last year, which is a plus.
The body is medium-full with an appropriately low amount of carbonation.
This one is definitely an experience for anyone who likes/loves bourbon barrel aged stouts. There's a lot going on in here, from all the flavors to the booziness and complexity. As time goes on, it's mellowing out and becoming a more balanced beer. I only have one left, so maybe I'll skip a year and revisit this in my 2023 Advent Calendar. High 4.5/5

Barrel Aged Advent Calendar Day #6
Bourbon in the aroma. Taste has dark fruits first, followed by bourbon, roasted malts, chocolate and finishing with coffee. Quite boozy, but that's what you get at 18% abv.
The body is medium-full and the carbonation is medium-low.
Despite the booziness, I do love this beer. Maybe a few more years in the cellar will mellow it some more. 4.5/5

Bourbon, bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts, bourbon and oak. Great bourbon character if you couldn't tell. Taste has huge bourbon, chocolate and caramel. Amazing beer. 4.75/5
