One of my few souvenirs from Gdansk to myself. 😇
Clear, thick, amber mead with no carbonation and no head either.
The fragrance puts forward massive aniseed, loads of licorice and an intriguing nuance of herb medicine. I can also imagine a faint note of juniper berries somewhere among the olfactory components.
The taste starts colossal and thick as well as distinctly liqueur-like. Honey is now manifold more pronounced than that in the scent. Juniper berries are easily recognizeable, quite strong and create a bit wild impression on the tastebuds. Aniseed has moved behind the corner but still lurks visibly to the limelight. Licorice is tightly attached to aniseed and brings in a medicinal impression.
The body is medium-full. The thick sweetness disturbs the assessment to some extent. The mead finishes with reasonable nuances of licorice and aniseed whereas honey lingers only briefly on the sides of the tongue. Overall, the aftertaste is relatively quick.
The mouthfeel is thick, sticky, herbal and a tad medicinal. It's also slightly liqueur-like, soft, smooth, round and even a little mature. This is substantially slow and very desserty. Different than I anticipated but in a truly positive way. Unique. I really love this!
The bottle cost about 6 € at the Gdansk Airport. I have now had 50 ml of the content, still have 700 ml to go... 😄
