Opening this was a pleasure. The Cork pop was a nice event as always, and I was thrilled to have a barrel aged stout that didn't have wax on the cap! Upon opening there was an eruption of strong chocolate, intense booze and sweet caramel. The pour was tricky and gave way more foam than I was expecting. The body settled jet black with three fingers of brown head that was only slowly dissipating. The scent in the glass was well contained underneath the head but there was a little chocolate coming through. Mouthfeel was pleasant and not too foamy considering the amount of foam the beer had to get through. Taste was nice, whiskey is present immediately but it is mellow and not overpowering. That said the other taste notes took a step back here. There is a succinct sweetness behind the booziness but it is like a dull mix of the chocolate and caramel, with a woody finish. A nice stout but a missed opportunity.
