Happy NATIONAL LAGER DAY! What a great excuse to drink a Lager. The internet enlightens me as follows: "National Lager Day is a celebration of one of the most popular and widely consumed styles of beer in the world: Lager. This annual observance encourages beer enthusiasts and casual drinkers alike to savor the crisp and refreshing flavors of lager while exploring the rich history and variety of this beloved beverage. [...] National Lager Day is celebrated on December 10th each year." I was going to toast for the Lager Day with a Lager. I thought this was a Lager. But it isn't. This is an American IPA. 😫 My Lager Day Lager that is not a Lager but an IPA (= blasphemy?) colors clear, deep gold. Carbonation is average as it creates a white velvety head that falls considerably short of one finger. Maybe half a finger is the correct measure. The actual foamy cap melts hastily to a gossamer haze on the top. The scent offers biscuit, lemon, a suggestion of banana and remote butter (but not diacetyl). Interesting. Not sure if this is perfectly clean but quite nice to my nose anyway. The taste profile gives grapefruit peel, malt cracker, a bit of white bread and a pinch of grass. Simple. No off-flavors at this stage. The body is thin to light minus. The finish is fast and citrusy. It's almost gone before I get my both brain cells to work. Well, not much to write home about, simple and rushed. Put on your soup pants and the aftertaste carnival will begin; slush spills into pints, it's Sunday; wet sleet splashes all the way to Sweden. The mouthfeel is thin to light, marginally crisp, zesty, refreshing, balanced and gluggable. Lackluster. Not a Lager. Whatever. Tick and forget. ✅
