Last time I was little bit disappointed for the beer from this brewery. Bottle. Best before:? (Vintage 2018) Temperature: +13 degrees Murky brown color. Tan head is about one finger tall and it breaks up on the middle but stays at the edges for quite some time: 4,25/5 Storng malty scent with smooth and soft bourbon/oak supporting it nicely. Caramel sweetness and some nutty/toasty aromas aswell. Very nice, quite strong but gentle: 4,5/5 Mouthfeel is full, with medium carbonation, bourbon like alcohol warmth and restrained bitterness plus some oaky feel. Not so chewy as, in my oppinion, the best Scotch ales are: 4/5 Taste: bourbon, oak, heavy maltiness with nutty and bready undertones. Aftertaste is warming. Solid strong Scottish style ale: 11,75/15 Very nice beer. Wish this would have even more heavy mouthfeel. That would make this more complex (like a Founders Backwoods bastards). Any ways, good example of Scottish ale and much better brew than the last Central waters I had: 16/20 =40,5/50

Side by side review with Founders Backwoods Bastard. This one is in the Mikerphone glass. Aroma has bourbon and caramel. A little bit of oak as well. Taste has huge caramel. Bourbon follows immediately after. Some oak from the barrel aging is present as well. The caramel is much stronger and the bourbon packs more of a punch than in the Backwoods Bastard. The oaky presence is an added plus. They're both great examples of the style, but I think I like Central Waters more than Backwoods Bastard. Not by a lot, but by enough. 4.25/5
