It's that time again...Advent Calendar 2021. 27 days of beers I've picked from my cellar, all barrel aged, that have been randomly ordered for each day.
First up is Islay, an imperial stout aged in Ardbeg Islay Scotch Whisky barrels for 17 months, bottled December 5th of 2017.
Very peaty scotch aroma, nothing else that I can detect. Taste has chocolate, peaty scotch, and oak from the barrel. A little bit of tobacco in the aftertaste. Very unique and different, but I enjoy it and have since the first time I had it a few years back. Unfortunately this is my last bottle.
The body is full with an appropriately low amount of carbonation. Honestly, this is about the same for me as the last time I had it (reviewed on Untappd), which is a 4.25/5
(At some point I'll add my backlogs. Procrastination at its finest)

This should be interesting. Aroma has a lot of smokiness. I mean A LOT. Almost gives off a smoked bacon aroma. Taste has a lot of smokiness as well. Beyond that is a tasty base stout, which happens to be the same base stout used for Bourbon County Brand Stout. I'm getting chocolate in the taste as well as a good deal of oak from the barrel aging. The scotch barrel aging adds a smokiness from the peat used in the making of it. I'm not too familiar with scotch whiskey, but I do like this beer and the qualities of it. This is definitely a sipper, both due to the intense flavors and the 13.4% abv. In the world of barrel aged beers, this is very unique. I'd like to try the scotch this was aged in (Ardbeg) prior to trying my next bottle of this. Leaves a lingering smoky taste in the aftertaste. 4/5

Smoky bacony aroma. Taste has a super smoky bacon flavor. Smokiest beer I've had and definitely the best done one i've had the privilege of trying. 4.25/5
