Ryan found this beer from a brewery just outside Chicago. Large pint can and it's a flavored 12% imperial Stout. Should be interesting.
Poured from the can like syrup. No bubbles, no head whatsoever. Has to be intentional since his and mine are the same. Swirl the glass and still nothing. Create a solid sticky film around the glass, no lacing. Really good aroma. Cinnamon and maple syrup. Texture is not as syrupy as I expected, soft and velvety but not sticky. Absence of effervescence is sorely missed. Flavor: this is absolutely a glass of French toast. No artificial flavoring that I can detect. Perfect. Cinnamon, sweet maple syrup, bready toast. I've had several beers now that claim to be French toast but none achieved it as well as this.
It's not a perfect beer. I think it would have been better if the level of sweetness and sugar had been slightly refrained. My biggest problem is the lack of any effervescence whatsoever. A heavy beer with no carbonation is a major detriment. Could have achieved a super high rating.
Too sweet but I'm not going to pour it out. I'm going to put plastic wrap on my sniffer glass and tomorrow drop a scoop of vanilla ice cream in it. Beer will be the same tomorrow since there's no effervescence to start with. I'll do a PS tomorrow and let you know how that works out. As it is, flat beer still going to get a good rating.
