As the hops season comes into harvest time, I prepare myself for the onslaught of hop focused brews that are about to overwhelm the shelves. The days are steadily shortening, the temperatures are easing to the cooler side, and I find myself sitting here with a beautiful amber colored beer. A thick shaving cream like head has formed on top, and while not ever getting too tall remains at a constant small finger high. Excellent retention. Delightful floral aromas are allowed to pass through with gentle encouragement from light swirling of the glass. There are grassy and citrus notes as well as very minor hint of vanilla. Taking a sip leaves a white moustache and a certain amount of surprise at the initial sweet maltiness. Pale malt with light touches of caramel give a solid foundation in which delicate floral hops balance themselves with ever so gentle citrus and grassy highlights. As the sip fades into aftertaste, a mild resiny bitterness, a little stronger than I would've thought, escorts the tastebuds to a standing ovation. I could understand some not enjoying this, but I really like the subtleties of this tasty lager.
