This is a friend's home brew. I've had the barrel aged version, this is the base version.
Chocolate and oats in the aroma. Taste has chocolate, an intense sweetness/sourness that I can't quite pinpoint and some evidence of the oats. Still good, but something's off. 3.5/5

Chocolate and a little bit of bourbon in the aroma. Taste has bourbon first, followed by chocolate roasted malts and a little bit of oak from the barrel aging. Actually, the oak is pretty prominent on the back end and aftertaste. Nice barrel character. The bourbon is flavorful without being hot and the chocolate is somewhat subtle, but tasty as well. The addition of oats gives this a good body and smoothness. Medium+ body with an appropriately lower carbonation. I like this. I'm going to try to get another one to age. 4/5

Smoky aroma with some slight chipotle peeking through. Taste has huge smokiness up front, followed by a little bit of spice and heat from the chipotle. Medium body with a medium-high carbonation. The carbonation dies down as it sits longer, making the finish much smoother. Not the hugest fan of smoked beers, but I like this one. 3.5/5
