Ryan and I tried to hold off and put this in the beer celler, but we had to have it now anyway. We simply have run short of Duo beers. Three more weeks and we'll meet again at the 2024 SOTS Reunion. I'll be coming home with a couple of cases of Duo beers to enjoy. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this double Porter. One of the few beers I've ever had that actually brought the pecan flavor to the forefront successfully. That pecan flavor along with the barrel aged bourbon, roasted with a sweet molasses is absolute heaven. 512 Brewery in Austin is magnificent but have only had a few of their beers. I need to make a serious effort in changing that. No need to have a lengthy review, my last one was accurate and relevant. Damn good Texas beer.

Having a Duo beer with Ryan, this one's from Austin Texas. Label says Fall 2022. A 9.5% porter should be fun. Looked black coming out of the bottle. Had almost no head and what was there dissipated quickly. Aroma gives chocolate and Oak alcohol. Heavy with malt. Texture has a firmness that's unusual for a porter. Flavor immediately has a roasted malt, a dark fruit resembling black cherry, a nutty pecan and the oak alcohol that gives it a very warming sensation. Very pleasant. As it goes into the finish it undergoes a transformation. The roasted quality turns into a char, a dark coffee appears and a bitterness that is more of a pecan pith than from hops. The alcohol also seems to be more forthcoming. A beer that starts out with an initial identity and then transforms into a totally different beer in the finish is unusual. For me to say that it's both well balanced and excellent is even more unusual. I really enjoyed this beer and I'm so pleased that I have one for the beer celler for next year.
