Day 1 of my homemade beer Advent calendar. It pours brown in colour, slightly hazy with a dark cream coloured head. I dont get much from the aroma. Flavour is quite tart, almost to the point that something has gone wrong with the beer. I was expecting it to be malty, oakey, slightly sweet with a warmth from the strength. There is some oak flavour, but I am disappointed.

Im Glas ist dieses Barrel Aged in Oak Ale Casks mahagonifarben, klar und mit einer feinporigen Blume bedeckt, die durchaus als stabil zu bezeichnen ist. Der Geruch ist zu allererst beerig, dazu minimal holzig und leicht malzig. Der Antrunk ist dann zunächst weinartig mit einer leichten Alkoholdominanz. Dann kommt auch hier das beerige zum Tragen, ebenso dringt das Holzfass durch. Es gehen dann eine Spur Herbe mit einer etwas größeren Portion Süße in ein ständiges Wechselspiel, wobei die Alkoholdominanz zurückgeht. Gegen Ende bindet sich eine moderate Bittere ans Zäpfchen. Zu alledem ist es ausgesprochen süffig. Trotz der 8,0% und nach Überwindung des ersten Moments der Alkoholdominanz ein "leichtfüßiges" Trinkerlebnis.

Samuel Smith - Yorkshire Stingo Prösterchen Nachtrag Ein in Eichenfässern gelagertes Strong Ale mit 8 Prozent Alkoholgehalt ist im Glas. In der Nase und am Gaumen sind es schwarze Beeren, Rosinen und weinartige Noten. Zu schmecken sind zudem noch angenehme, süßliche Noten und leicht holzige Fassnoten, die fast an Rotwein erinnern. Die Augen sehen ein kastanienbraunes Ale mit wenig, altweißer Blume. Zudem ist sie nicht sehr stabil. Irgendwie ist das Gesamtpaket angenehm, gefällt und ist leicht zu genießen. 4/3,5/4/4

Strong Ale en barrica, muy fuerte, marron oscura de espuma corta. Primera bocanada intensa, alcohol presente. toques tofes, casi torrefactos de las negras, otros sabores sin identificar en retrogusto, astringente

Happy New Year 🎆🎉to everyone on Eastern Time 🎇. Entire family welcoming 2025 a little early here. Will do it again in 1 hour for Central Time. We actually live on the border so we get to do it twice. Ryan found a special Samuel Smith barrel aged limited release ale. What a great way to bring in the New Year. Muddy brown color, lots of haze in this. Dark fruit aroma that has a honey sweet characteristic. Immediately get a stone fruit, raisins and some prune. This has a natural sweetness, it seems to come from fermenting the fruit. Also somewhat tart. The oak cask is on the forefront of the flavor profile. As it moves into the finish it adds a gentle roasted amber quality. This beer seems simple but it's not. It has some complexities in it's flavors that are so well balanced. The fact that they aged this in oak casks and then conditioned it in barrels conveys how carefully this beer was created. Sometimes it's just about the art.
