This year mainly and the one previous to a lesser extent, have been about expanding my beer horizons. I've been a craft fan for a very long time but I've also been a purist, until recently.
Which brings me to this lovely ESB.
A cloudy reddish orange beer that doesn't produce a large head but a small cream one finger that doesn't hang out for very long.
I can smell the lavender as I pour it but on the inhale, it also offers a wonderful caramel and biscuit. The lavender is not strong, just aromatic. I can also pick out the tea.
There is a bit of a floral.scent but its hard to tell if it's hops or lavender. (It's both by the way)
The flavour is exquisite. The lavender and tea are beautifully subdued and lay very well over malts. You can taste the excellent ESB that is the base for this drink.
The caramel and biscuit are a bit sweet, but the other flavours come across as dry. Floral.and mildly bittered this goes down easy but demands respect and patience.
Medium bodied and creamy on the tongue.
This tastes dignified to me.
Thanks Foamers Folly. I hope this is in the permanent line up.
