This is some beer!! A salted, hazelnut praline imperial porter with grains of paradise (a type of peppercorn apparently). This is very much a marmite beer. If you don’t stick with it, you’ll probably hate it. If you do, you might still hate it, or maybe find it very complex and interesting indeed! Firstly it smells amazing, like sweet vanilla popcorn covered in peanut butter!!! The initial taste is full on and earthy (guessing its those corns). Mrs Phil and others described it as drinking mud and bailed out at this point. I bravely persevered, and I’m glad I did! Once the salty earthiness abated there’s a rich chocolate and praline backbone that’s incredibly intense, unctuous, and quite brilliant. The finish is quite dry and not entirely pleasant either. A real roller coaster of a beer, and one I’ll definitely remember!!
