Just had a couple of pints with my friend Ian at The Fleece in Hillesley, a great pub in the middle of nowhere. Up the hill from Wooton-under-Edge if you need orientation. It's owned by the local community and stocked with great beer and food.
As an experiment I went left field, avoided all the lovely pale ales and tried this US style red. Despite the description it tasted burnt and sweet to me. Dry as a bone and heavily hopped with all the associated IBU's. To be fair the impact was well balanced but too sharp and harsh for my palate. The tropical pale I had to follow was a winner. Should have stuck to my guns.
