Scottish beers were made without the strong presence of hops because they weren't able to grow in Scotland and the Scots didn't like getting them from the English. This beer is low in hops and big on malt flavors. The cold Scot climate allowed the beer to ferment slowly at colder temps producing a smoother less fruity ale. Chuckanut's Scottish Export Ale is not a Scotch Ale but a Scottish Ale with medium body and smooth finish and less alcohol than a Scotch Ale.Toffee with light butterscotch notes and malty flavors are evident finishing with a bit of chocolate at the center.
