The comet hop was introduced for the first time in 1974 but fell out of favor mainly due to its strong aromas. Recently however brewers have been looking for varieties that challenge the drinker with all of the aromas and flavors the hop plant is capable of providing. Comet is hard to find as not much is grown any more. We used it as a single hop in a plae ale, the best way to demonstrate its capabilities. Pilsner malt and a little English crystal malt were used and brewed at an abv of 5.5% for easy drinkability. The Comet hops were added at 4 different times to evaluate the quality of bitterness, the flavors and aromas.
