Imperial Tanilla
10.0% Imperial Porter
Knee Deep's 2 year Anniversary brew. The Imperial Tanilla was brewed with twice as many vanilla beans as its brother (Tanilla), which compliments this wonderfully balanced, yet full bodied brew with chocolate, vanilla and espresso flavors.

Kahvinen. Vaniljan kanssa oltu tosi varovaisia. Runko olisi kestänyt enemmänkin.

Can. Canned on:? Temperature: +10 C Almost black in color. Nice and thick, creamy tan head. Excellent retention and a lot of the foam sticks to the glass. Gorgeous: 5/5 Nose is a beautiful play between dark-side malt characteristics and light-side vanilla. Every sniff just pleases your senses with those strong coffee, chocolate and heavy roasted aromas that come with the gentle, yet strong vanilla. Amazing how few things can make something so complex: 4,75/5 Mouthfeel is medium-full, the roasty feel is freaking amazing! Really fills the mouth without being too heavy. Carbonation is medium, bitterness is high. What comes to Imperial Porter, this is how I imagine a world-class one to be like: 4,75/5 Have I hyped this yet? Because the flavor is pretty decent as well: heavy roastiness and coffee with chocolate undertones and of course, vanilla. Interestingly, there's some fruity sweetness as well and even though it adds complexity I find it takes something away from the vanilla. I really wish it wouldn't be here, just let the vanilla shine! It might be here due to age but most likely it's either hop or yeast esters. Nevertheless lovely flavor: 12,5/15 This looked like it would be my favorite Imperial Porter but then the fruity flavors popped out. I'd like to associate fruitiness more to Imperial stouts rather than Porters but that minor thing aside, awesome beer! I'm definitely getting myself some more Knee Deep as this is the first one I've tasted: 17/20 =44/50

After skin kunniaksi Knee deep brewingin Imperial tanilla. Musta olut lasissa, sormen paksuinen beige vaahto haihtuu hitaasti pinnalta. Kohtuu mieto paahteinen tuoksu, jossa kivasti suklaata, vaniljaa, kahvia ja luumua. Runsas, pehmeä ja sopivan täyteläinen suussa, vähäisillä hiilihapoilla. Maussa makeaa ja paahteista tummaa suklaata, vaniljaa ja kahvia, hieman metallinen sivumaku. Alkoholi kivasti piilossa, jälkikitkerä toimii hyvin vastapainona vaniljan makeudelle. Ihan hyvin tehty imperial porter, makeaa vaniljaa ja suklaata, kitkerä kahvi tukena. Ei ollut silti mikään tajunnanräjäyttävä, mutta hyvin uppoaa.

Today is half way to Christmas in countdown. Door #12 of my Advent Calendar opens and unwraps "Imperial Tanilla" from California. Not a souvenir though. Muddy, very deep dark ebony, almost black beer with appropriate, short-lived carbonation creates a beautiful, tan, small-bubbled head that builds itself up three fingers. Surprisingly tall. The head levels painfully downwards and eventually to a neat porous lacing on top. A number of tiny splatters can be detected afterwards on the glass. The scent is less powerful than I anticipated but still quite lovely: a decent combination of attractive vanilla, a good amount of dark chocolate and a tad mocha merge with light-sweet brown malt with a faint roasted hint. The taste receptors fall back out of excitement: massive dark chocolate and bags of cacao nibs are making good friends with vanilla aromas, both delicate vanilla and slightly harsher raw vanilla beans. Espresso is full but remains in the back row. A modest nuance of roasted malt and a creamy suggestion complement the enjoyment nicely. Alcohol is nowhere despite the ABV of 10 %. The body is full. The beer finishes with loads of raw chocolate and raw cacao powder, not to forget about cacao beans. The roasted aroma transforms into a burned direction. A little pour of strong black coffee lingers in the mouth for quite some time. It actually intensifies towards the end but never reaches a dominant position in the gustatory hierarchy. Vanilla is still identifiable but not delicate but rather harsh. The aftertaste keeps the tastebuds dancing around the Christmas tree over medium to long duration. The mouthfeel is full, a tad lip-glueing and a little roasted. It's also smooth but also slightly coarse as well as surely desserty. Label art is intriguing. The design reminds me of some tribal art, maybe the moais of Easter Island. Makes me wanna travel again, I'll add Easter Island to my wishlist.
