Double Crooked Tree IPA 12.0%, Dark Horse Brewing Company, United States

Double Crooked Tree IPA
12.0% Imperial IPA / Double IPA
We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Enjoy right away or let it mellow and smooth with some age.

I'd really like to have more beers from Dark horse. Happy I got this one as a free beer. Can. Canned on:? Temperature: +12 degrees Hazy, copper-ish. Creamy, off-white head with good retention and nice thick appearance. Uneven laces: 4,25/5 Nose has both huge maltiness and powerfull Hoppy aromas. Maltiness takes the caramelly turn and hoppines is the classic piney, resiny, citrusy mixing with the fruity notes. Despite the high ABV, no alcohol aromas can be detected: 4/5 Mouthfeel is full with punching bitterness, alcohol warmth that grows stronger the more you drink this. High bitterness tries to restraine it but fails to do so. Despite the alcohol feel, this beer manages to keep its drinkability, though just barely: 4/5 Malty/caramelly sweet taste with piney and resiny hop flavours. Mild citrus, ripe fruitiness and alcohol flavour. Aftertaste is a mix between warm alcohol and dry bitterness: 10/15 Very powerfull in both strenght and flavour. This might be better when more fresh (atleast my gues is that this is been in a cans for a while) but have to say, this is aged well. And dispite the malty and alcohol notes, this stays as an Imperial IPA and doesn't come close to an American barleywine. So good showcase of quality brewing once again from this brewery: 14/20 =36,25/50
