I have been enjoying the Strathcona breweries beers lately and was very happy to find their Vienna lager.
I'm no expert but I think this is a very solid example.
The aromas produced by this lovely Amber beer include well baked bread, dough, biscuit, grain, and some floral spiciness from what seems to be noble hops.
It doesn't really make a head or even display much in the way of foam, but that's ok. Not very detrimental.
Mouth feel is typical of a lager, crisp, light bodied, and carbonated.
This is well balanced. Slightly bigger bread, biscuit, and grainy malt flavours than a typical lager and well applied spicy, floral, and herbal notes from the hops. The hops also add just the right amount of bitterness. Clean, slightly dry, and spicy hops, very nice.
When partaking in big stouts, and massive IPAs, it can be easy to forget the joys and elegance of well built lagers. This was a great reminder.
