I was surprised by the colour, as I was expecting a darker drink when the label said 'mild'. It's a decent drink with a nice malty aroma and taste, with subtle fruitiness mixed in. Subtle hoppy notes lead to a subtly sweet finish, balanced by a slightly bitter aftertaste. It's a smooth and easy-drinking session ale, especially at this ABV, now brewed down to 3.4%.

Very easy drinking as a mild should be, slightly down graded to 3.4% from 3.7% for spoons festival. Mild nutty finish.

Had the 3.4% version of this mild red ale at Spoons fest Oct26, it retains it's pleasant nutty character but is very much a lunchtime or starter brew due to it's low strength & mild flavour.

JDW Beer Festival, October 2026.
As other contributors have noted, nothing like the tasting notes issued by JDW.
A very poor selection.
