Opaque, black beer pours from tap to the glass. The color has ruby tint, resembles Coca-Cola to some extent. Zero carbonation as this is a real ale version.
Very thin, mocha-colored, soapy lace ring forms on top for a short time only. Nose has first faint, bitter black coffee and licorice, gets more robust when the beer becomes warmer. Raw chocolate joins later the orchestra.
Tastes light and soft with extraordinarily bitter black coffee and licorice root. The nuances get stronger when the beer is warmer.
Light to light-medium body. The aftertaste has the same elements as the actual upfront taste but in a sharper form. Lingers quite a long time on tongue.
Mouthfeel is thin, autumnal, somewhat crisp, a bit oily and -- understandably -- a bit flat.
