Back to Fermentage. This time a Madeira barrel aged barleywine. Sounds like a treat! Opaque, jet black beer. Obscure carbonation, a subdued dark creamy lacing. Fig is – surprisingly – the biggest input of the scent. Caramel, toffee, dried plum, date and cold-brew coffee complete the olfactory journey. Very attractive! The taste is "dark" with immense barrel notes. I 🤎 this! Madeira big time. Date beats fig now. Dark plum, prune, caramel, coffee, cold-brew coffee, dark malt, milk chocolate, cacao nibs and a tweak of raisin. Oh mama! This delivers!! The sensation is big, I mean mellow. Or full. Or whatever. Robust anyway. Slightly sticky, deep, rich, intense, soft and smooth. Relatively complex. Barrel aged like never before. Rather vinous even. A slow sipper! 🤎🤎🤎
