Choco Orange Jelly Wheat Wine 2024, Czech Republic
4.5
Finally. Advent Calendar #️⃣2️⃣4️⃣. It's Xmas eve today. Something special for the celebration. Wheat Wine is a rare beerstyle in my collection (only four so far). Muddy deep dark brown beer. No observable carbonation. And no head either. Moves like tar. Must be very viscous. Hefty date, burned brown sugar, cacao nibs, milk chocolate and raisin find my nose easily. Tiny injections of toffee, maple syrup and rum follow behind. The gustatory experience confirms the viscous feature of the beer. Thick indeed. Dark chocolate, cacao nibs, orange jam, mandarin, date, brown sugar, raisin, fig and maple syrup. A liquid dessert, c’est ça. The body is robust, no question about it. The finish is over-chocolatey, many of the previous components carry over to the very end. The sensation is full, thick, sticky, viscous, deep and rich. It's also round, velvety, gentle, oversweet and gooey. Absolutely desserty. This is definitely divisive: on one hand, it's truly sweet and hence revolting to some while it's a slow enjoyable sipper to others. For me, it would be challenging to finish the whole bottle myself but the circumstances (accompanying salty mature blue cheese and crackers) do a welcome balancing act in the experience.
