Following century old recipes all malts made at the Schlenkerla brewery are dried by wood fire. While for the classic Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier traditionally beech has been – and still is – used, the malt for Schlenkerla Oak Smoke is kilned with oak wood. The resulting Oak Smoke Malt has a smoother and more multi layered smoky note than the intensely aromatic Beech Smoke Malt. The hence complex smokiness in Schlenkerla Oak Smoke is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the deep brewery cellars underneath Bamberg into a special treat for smoke beer lovers for Christmas.

Full and medium sweet body. Smokey with downtoned sweet caramel malts. Aftertaste is just delicious. Smoke, tar, oak, faint caramel with distinct herbal tones. Some smoked pork also. I gotta admit to be biased since I just love smoke and tar, but I haven't managed so far to taste but excellent beers from this brewery.

Vuoden 2026 versio maistoon (BB 05/2027): Kuparisen ja meripihkaisen ruskeaa ja täysin kirkasta. Vähäinen ja pienikuplainen vaahto. Tuoksu runsaan, miellyttävän, vihreän puumaisen ja savukinkkuisen savuinen, maukkaan, makean ja ohuen karamellisen maltainen ja viljainen, vihreän ruohoinen ja lehtinen sekä makean kuivatun hedelmäinen (omenaa, rusinaa) ja hunajainen. Maku runsaan ja tuoreen vihreän puumaisen ja kevyen kinkkuisen savuinen, runsahkon, makean ja kevyen karamellisen maltainen ja viljainen, kirpaka vihreän ruohoinen ja lehtinen, kevyen ja makeahkon hedelmäinen (omenaa, rusinaa) ja hunajainen sekä selkeähkön humalaisen katkera. Oikein hyvät, runsaat ja tasapainoiset maut. Suutuntuma on keskitäyteläinen, melko kuivakka ja hiilihappoinen. Erittäinkin maukas, runsaan ja miellyttävän savuinen ja maltainen sekä oikein mukavasti juotava, vaikkakin hieman vielä hieman raa'an oloinen olut. Paranee varmasti hienosti ajan myötä. Tässä kunnossa 4.5
