Another Thirsty Peret tasting. A serious barley wine with 11.8 % from 13 months in a gin barrel.
Barley wine aroma, not exceedingly strong. Sweet. Flavor has a powerful sweetness that for me is too much, and I like sweet beers. The wine flavor is good. The raw honey starts soft and by the middle is dominant. The alcohol is most noticeable when the finish arrives. Warms the throat and belly while in a gentle way. It even presents a gin characteristic. It's growing on me, beginning to follow Ryan who loved from the start.
Some beers are best enjoyed in specific environments. Stouts are best in winter, IPAs outside in the summer. This beer...I see myself sitting on a couch at night relaxing and slowly sipping this brew. Not today, summer afternoon in Houston. Good beer.
