Happy Birthday Ryan! 🎉 For his birthday beer we are going to Duo a beer from Back Pew Brewing. We've been to the brewery and it was great. Using my glass from there. Label looks classy, hope the beer is.
Poured really dark, not much head. Aroma is awesome. Heavy sweet malt, raisin and bourbon alcohol. Texture is heavy, super soft and creamy. Not so heavy has to be sticky or syrupy. At first I get an intense malt chocolate, sweet roasted molasses, then quickly followed with raisin, and oak flavored bourbon. The flavors blend smoothly and effortlessly. The finish adds a new experience. A chared bitterness envelops the back of the tongue and the alcohol starts warming the entire mouth.
I knew a immediately that this was going to be at least a high four. Ryan, with his excellent palette, and I kept going over what we were tasting and it soon became apparent that is an exceptional stout. It arrives in layers, flavors showing early and then new flavors coming along after followed by new flavors again in the finish. We both agree that we can find no reason not to give this a 5.0.
